Personnel in law enforcement perform a variety of services to help protect the public and maintain order. They may perform a variety of functions, including:  patrol a specific area; direct traffic; issue traffic summonses; investigate accidents; apprehend and arrest suspects, or serve legal processes of courts. Detectives and investigators gather facts and evidence of possible crimes.
